Tsavo National Park

The Tsavo national park has a magnificent vegetation. It is the habitat of many species, over 50 mammals and nearly 400 bird types. Tsavo became renowned because it was populated by the largest elephants herd in Africa. Hunting and pouching reduced their population drastically. The elephants themselves caused the devastating trails by their draughts. Tsavo's nature is under stress. It is human responsibility to enjoy and preserve nature consciously. Netherken Safaris shows the best sites but also teaches you about this preservating role.

The Tsavo National Park, comprises of two parts: Tsavo West and Tsavo East. If you're short on time you can visit one of them in a 1 day trip. But obviously an overnight stay gives you more time to enjoy the vast wilderness and better change to spot game.

Tsavo West

stretches to the border of Tanzania. It gives you breathtaking views of the Kilimanjaro, the famous mountain and highest peak in Africa. The route to Kilimanjaro crosses a diverse area, full of sights and sounds, dry savanna's, hillsides, red earth areas holding anthracite, green forests with acacias and tropical birds. And fascinating views of volcano's, which latest eruptions were a very long time ago.

We will also visit Mzima Springs. These wells of crystal clear fresh water create their own paradise in the dry Tsavo desert, an oases of palms and acacia's. Each day more than 240 million liters bubbles up in these Springs, enough to provide Mombasa with drinking water. In the Mzima lake we will visit an underwater observation station. From there you can study swimming hippo's, crocodiles and tropical fish. A phenomenal experience.

Tsavo East

safari

stretches out to the north east side of the Nairobi- Mombasa highway. The visited area lies south of Galana river, it is a typical African untamed wilderness. The park has some amazing spots to watch wildlife. Close to the park entrance, on the hills of Voi Safari Lodge, you have a spectacular sight of three drinking wells. An secret passage under the earth surface takes you to an observation point. From there you can observe the animals in "close up", sometimes some mere meters away. And if you hear some rumble at night, while sleeping at the lodge, pop out to peek at your nightly visitors: elephants drinking at the wells.

Amboseli National Park

Amboseli Park is situated in the Masai area. Amboseli means "salted earth" in Masai, stemming from the Alkali rich waters. Vegetation is diverse, depending on the availability of water and the degree of salt. Usually cane grows on the borders of the Amboseli Lake, but now it is  largely dried out.

Vegetation becomes richer down the road, further east. Melting water from the Kilimanjaro creates huge fields of papyrus plants and grassy swamps.

Amboseli National Park offers marvelous views of the famous Killimanjaro, near Tanzania. This six kilometer high mountain has two iconic tops, permanently covered in snow: Kibo en Mawensi. During daytime the mountaintops are mostly covered in clouds. The snowy tops can best be seen early mornings, so Netherken organizes trips and walks at dawn. We offer comfortable lodges inside and outside the park for "an early rise".
